Principal's Message

Dear IAA Parents,

I would like to begin by welcoming all of you to our new 2020- 2021 school year.

As the school year begins, I look forward to welcoming our new and returning families back to IAA. Our teachers and administration will be partnering with the board, MPTO, parents, and community to create a healthy, encouraging, and stimulating environment at The Islamic Academy of Alabama.

We will be starting virtually for the first nine weeks due to Alabama’s high number of Covid-19 cases. At the end of the quarter, we will evaluate the situation and decide whether or not to go to Phase 2, depending on the spread of the coronavirus.

Knowledge is a key part of worship in Islam. Acquiring knowledge is worship, reading and pondering the Quran is worship; even travelling to gain knowledge is worship. The practice of knowledge is connected with ethics and morality, with promoting virtue and combating vice, enjoining right and forbidding wrong. We will continue to seek knowledge through this time, despite the challenges we face.

A major part of our focus on character education is choosing a yearly theme to teach and model to the students. Given the challenging situation and our continuing efforts to maintain communication among our stakeholders, we’ve selected Determination to be the theme of the year.

We will have the determination to be good Muslims, and to be kind, helpful, and successful both in school and in daily life. By completing our duties, we show our determination to make this one of our best school years ever.

The wonderful IAA staff and I are privileged to be a part of your family.

We thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you soon.

Kind Regards,

Ziyad Awad
